04-17-2025: Time has expired to submit a signed petition. However, the RTM will be taking up a resolution to rescind its dissolution decision at its meetings on April 21 and April 28. A copy of the RTM Warning that includes the rescission item (Item #5) can be viewed here.
Additionally we have provided a timeline of events related to the dissolution of the Parking Authority and what we believe are deficiencies in that process. The timeline can be viewed here.
*On Monday, April 14, the Town Attorney and Town Clerk issued a correction notice that changed the submission deadline printed on the petition form from Tuesday, April 15, 2025 to Monday, April 14, 2025.
On Monday, March 31st, after a rushed and rules-suspending process, the Fairfield RTM voted to remove Section 102-1 of our Town Code and dissolve the Fairfield Parking Authority. The Authority and its Board of Commissioners are an independent agency whose primary responsibility is to the permit holders and other users of the Fairfield and Southport train stations. They have successfully served our community for nearly 50 years.
As a result of that vote, control and oversight of these facilities, including the setting of parking rates and the current fund balances, are scheduled to be handed over to Town Hall on July 1 where they may be subject to political influence and competing budget priorities.
This decision was not properly vetted and due process was not afforded. This is NOT good government.
If you believe like we do that Fairfielders should be given the opportunity to decide on the dissolution, please see the instructions below to print out and submit a petition. Per the Town Clerk's office, the deadline for submission is 4:30 pm on Tuesday, April 15. (correction: Monday, April 14 by 4:30 pm)
The following petition form was acquired from the Town Clerk's office in hard copy. Click to open a scanned PDF version and print:
